What is the Forgotten Prince AU?
The Forgotten Prince is an Alternate Universe story created and based from the game A Hat in Time. It features original detailed lore and characters, and is set after the main game's story. General knowledge of A Hat in Time and the story are helpful to know in order to understand the characters, but not completely necessary.The AU is primarily focused on Subcon Forest and Snatcher and his story. The lore and writing is inspired by current lore in the game, and unused cut content that didn't make it to the canon game.
Where do I start?
There is an ongoing written fic for the AU on Ao3, beginning from the end of the game. There are chapter updates as they are written, and each chapter is accompanied by a custom made title card. This story started over two years ago when I decided to make an ask blog for Prince Snatcher on tumblr, and the story sort of developed from that. Some of the older asks are inaccurately answered, and tumblr isn't the easiest to navigate, so on this site we've archived some of the most worthwhile and accurate asks and their answers.

Main Characters
The main cast! Mostly serves as a visual reference, as well as a small exerpt into their personalities.
Prince Snatcher is the main character (along with Prince Moonjumper) of my A Hat in Time Au: The Forgotten Prince. He thinks of himself as the rightful and proper ruler of Subcon Forest, as he’s the spirit of the lost prince and must rebuild his kingdom. His personality and quirks are similar to that of canon Snatcher, however after Hat Kid ended up staying on his planet and spending more time with him, his heart softened considerably. Don’t be fooled though, he spends his time trapping trespassers and making them do his dirty work before he ultimately takes their souls.
Prince Moonjumper is the main character (along with Prince Snatcher) of my A Hat in Time Au: The Forgotten Prince. He is the reanimated corpse of the lost prince, and lacks a soul. His personality is less bracing than Snatcher, and prefers to talk kindly, mostly in order to manipulate others. He can not be seen or interacted with most of the time, and instead astra he uses his red strings to manipulate the “real” world around him. Moonjumper likes Hat Kid… but only because he thinks he can use her. He believes that with her strength and time pieces, he will have the power to rule Subcon Forest for himself.
Prince Snatcher initially tried to trick Hat Kid, steal her soul, and take her Time Pieces. The alien girl proved to be more capable than he imagined, and defeated him, creating a contract of her own that labeled them as “Best Friends”. He didn’t take it seriously, but after they saved the world together and she was about to leave… Prince Snatcher found himself not wanting her to, and stopped her. Hat Kid now takes up residence in Subcon Forest, where she’s parked her Spaceship. Prince Snatcher insists she’s only allowed to stay because she promised to do chores for him.
Previously known as Robyn, Prince Snatcher gave her the nickname “Spark” after initially snaring her into a contract. He got lucky and was able to trap this ghost dragon into servitude for the rest of her undead days. After some years he came to respect her and her care for the other minions, and promoted her to “Head Minion”.
Once known as the beautiful Princess of Subcon, this demonic creature now resides in an icy cocoon in the far reaches of Prince Snatcher’s forest. It’s unknown as to whether or not she's a ghost or some sort of cursed being, but one thing is for certain: she is extremely dangerous. Completely driven mad, she remains in her frozen manor, completely oblivious to anything outside her home. Despite being in his jurisdiction, Prince Snatcher keeps away from her part of the forest, only occasionally pushing back the ice that creeps too close to Subcon Village.

Fusions
Ghost fusions, created when two supernatural beings "fuse" together for a common purpose or goal. Often difficult to achieve, and poorly understood. Fusions have their own personality and mindset.

I've sort of spoiled a lot of things with my drawings because I'm overzealous and the AU started out as an ask blog, where I would just answer questions about the world, even if it was something that took place later in the story. This is why they're also very effective against him...

Prince Moonjumper's blood and tears are pure black, so his blush would be sort of a gray color.

It’s hard enough as it is to leave the Horizon, and even when he can, her manor is surrounded by a cocoon of ice and protected by Prince Snatcher.

Prince Kristopher was actually partial to sweets! Especially cake. Cake was actually the food that Vanessa banned from her house...As a ghost that can’t eat real food, Prince Snatcher misses it. Please feed him.

Prince Kristopher used to be able to sing and play the piano quite well, however it seems his talents have been split into two parts.

FAQ
1."I've sent in an ask to the tumblr blog and it hasn't been answered yet. Will it be answered?”I get quite a lot of asks, and I mainly answer the ones that give me an idea or inspire me to draw something. Even then I don’t always answer them, or answer them right away. To put it simply, I only answer a few, and they have to inspire me!
2.“Can (insert your oc here) be a part of the story?”No, sorry. I have a mostly outlined plan for the story, and unless I already planned on adding in another character, I’ll most likely only be incorporating the ones I have, or my AU versions of other characters from A Hat in Time.
3.“OMG I LOVE UR PRINCES I WANT TO CUDDLE THEM AND LOVE THEM DSHJGDSAHJ CAN I PET THEM AND HUG THEM??!!!”No! Even if you managed to get close to them, they will kill you!
4.“Can you draw the characters doing (insert random specific video game reference here)”Even if I know what you’re talking about, I’d rather answer questions related to the AU world or the characters. There are very few exceptions to this.
5.“I’ve drawn some fan art of your AU, where can I submit it or show you it?”Here!
5.“When will the next chapter be out?”Whenever I feel like writing it and have time to write it. This is a passion project, I have responsibilities to take care of IRL and a job. As much as I'd like to make this my only priority I can't guarantee any times for releases. I will say though, feedback especially in the form of comments definitely motivates me to write faster.
